2005-2015: Growth & New Horizons
We’re continuing our journey through the rich history of Broadway Glass as we approach our milestone 70th Anniversary this September!
In our last chapter, we explored our decade of evolution from 1996 to 2005, we now dive into 2005 – 2015, Growth And New Horizons, a decade of growth and innovation that shaped our company into what it would become today.
As told by current Broadway Glass owner Ron DeWolf
2005 – 2015:
This decade marked a significant turning point for our company, both personally and professionally. In 2008, my sister made the decision to step away from the business. I purchased her shares, officially becoming the sole owner of the company.
To fill the critical accounting role she left behind, we brought on Chrissy Murray, who would eventually become our Chief Operating Officer. From the start, I made it a priority for Chrissy to gain a deep understanding of public works and compliance, enabling us to confidently pursue that type of work. She dove in headfirst, learning everything from prevailing wages and certified payroll to government reporting requirements. At the same time, she rebuilt our QuickBooks system from the ground up, tailoring it to better reflect our operations and growth. With this solid foundation in place, we signed our first PLA (Project Labor Agreement) with Local 636 Union—marking the beginning of a valued, long-term relationship.
As our partnership with American Shower Door continued to flourish, we secured contracts to install shower enclosures for a number of prestigious hotel projects—including the Hotel Bel Air, the W Hotel in Hollywood, and the Aviara Hotel in Carlsbad.
In addition to our hospitality projects, we remained busy partnering with commercial contractors on a diverse mix of work – everything from storefronts and curtain walls to custom handrails. If you’re from Long Beach, you’ve probably come across our team’s work firsthand. In 2013, we completed the storefront glass, railings, and signature cable railing at Gelson’s on the corner of 2nd and PCH.
In an effort to expand our residential footprint, I acquired the assets of Mac’s Glass in San Pedro and, in 2016, Cal State Glass in Los Alamitos. While both companies continued operating independently, we began integrating administrative and overhead functions to streamline our operations.
To accommodate our growing operations, we leased a new building on the west side of Long Beach, which became our corporate headquarters. Our original Broadway location remains open and dedicated to retail and showroom services.
This was a decade defined by strategic growth, operational innovation, and the forging of key partnerships, many of which continue to shape who we are today.
